Also, thank you for reminding me of something, with your closing line. Long ago I watched a movie, a fictionalised version of the creating of the first Olympic Games. One young hopeful saying to his Mother, " I am gong to win this, win it for you" and her reply "OH no, when you win, you do it for yourself and once you've done it, no one can take it away".
I never forgot that, because over the decades of learning to practise an integrity which become worth more and more, I also learned, that what ever it costs, once you have acted to your own standards of integrity, which incorporates honour, you carry an added sense of calm and growing strength. And you know then that no one can take that away from you either.
Man, this struggle is amazing and so well told. Wrestling with our own conscience is the most difficult task a person has to do. Congratulations Mr Ritter, on listening to your inner guidance system and thank you for sharing the process with us. It’s much more colorful, consequential and dramatic than my private wrestlings but I feel like I’m in good company having come to the same conclusion—that I need to trust myself and need to be the kind of self I can trust. This was a very well written story Scott, and it's theme is the story of our time. The major battle being engaged is not national or political, but good versus evil. The last 4 years have put many politicians, scientists, physicians, and educators in the same spot you were in. Most of them have failed miserably.
In the end, it's only the truth that matters. If you had given that up, you couldn't have lived with yourself, and we would have lost the record of that truth. Thank you Scott, for this and every time you've remained true.

This encapsulates why the US (and the West) can never be trusted and that their "rules based order" is simply a sham to hide their drive for dominance and subjugation using any amount of lies necessary. They are utterly agreement incapable, and as has now been proven with the Minsk Accords feel no shame in making agreements that they have no intent of keeping.
